ZyVet generic selamectin is recommended for use in dogs six weeks of age or older and cats eight weeks of age and older for the following parasites and indications:

Dogs*: Selamectin kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis), prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the treatment and control of ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations. Selamectin also is indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei) and for the control of tick infestations due to Dermacentor variabilis.

Cats: Selamectin kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month and is indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis), prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the treatment and control of ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations. Selamectin is also indicated for the treatment and control of roundworm (Toxocara cati) and intestinal hookworm (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) infections in cats.

*The 15 mg dose is the only dosing indicated for use in dogs six weeks of age or older.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Selamectin is a topical parasiticide used in dogs and cats to prevent and treat various parasitic infestations. In dogs, it is effective against heartworm disease, fleas, ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and certain ticks. In cats, it prevents heartworm disease, kills adult fleas, treats flea infestations, ear mites, and certain intestinal parasites like roundworms and hookworms. The product is applied topically once a month at a dose of 2.7 mg per pound (6 mg/kg) of the animal's body weight. Ensure the animal is dry before application and avoid bathing or immersing the animal in water for two hours after application. Use in sick, debilitated, or underweight animals has not been evaluated; therefore, consult a veterinarian before use in such cases. Common side effects may include temporary hair loss at the application site, or hypersalivation. Keep out of reach of children and avoid contact with human skin, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling. For complete information, refer to the product's package insert.
