ZyVet Acepromazine Maleate is indicated as an aid in tranquilization and as a preanesthetic.
ZyVet generic acepromazine maleate is a common veterinary sedative that can help manage dog anxiety and stress. It has a depressant effect on the central nervous system and therefore causes sedation, muscular relaxation, and a reduction in spontaneous activity in dogs. It acts rapidly, exerting a prompt and pronounced calming effect. It is an effective preanesthetic agent and lowers the dosage requirement of general anesthetics. It can also be used as an aid in controlling intractable animals during examination, treatment, grooming, x-ray, and minor surgical procedures.
Acepromazine maleate is a tranquilizer used in dogs to provide sedation during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures. It should not be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to acepromazine or in combination with organophosphates, including certain flea collars and wormers, or with procaine. Use caution in dogs with liver dysfunction or blood disorders, as overdosage may cause prolonged sedation, low blood pressure, or motor restlessness. Potential side effects include transient respiratory distress (reverse sneezing), reduced heart rate. This medication is not intended for animals used for human consumption and should be stored safely away from children and pets. For veterinary use only; consult a veterinarian before use.
CAUTION: Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
